Sherlock Grey

There’s two more weeks till it’s officially spring. But it looks like no one’s informed my older sister or these trees. We both love this orchard and the meadows too. There is an odd juxtaposition in this week’s outfit though. My outfit is very appropriate for school and very similar to my usual winter to spring transition outfits. I love mixing my warmer clothes and slowly bringing in a lighter style through hairstyles and makeup choices.

This wool blend grey top is deceptively heavy. It photographs as a very light and free material, but in reality … it’s a very thick and warm material. My sister bought this in the winter of 2009. Yes, it is eight years old now! We weren’t joking when we said we rarely throw away clothes.

I pair it with a long sleeve shirt during the really cold days, but just the top alone was more than warm enough for me on this day. It’s a nice warm material – sort of like a cute blanket. I really do feel all wrapped up in this top!

I’ve had these black booties on repeat now. I’m trying to get as much use out of them as possible before it’s too warm to wear them out. I know I’ll try to incorporate them into some night time summer outfits when it’s cool enough to pair them with a light cotton dress. Even though I have a special place in my heart for sandals, booties are admittedly my favorite style of shoes.

It’s officially Spring in my town and I’m loving all the flowers sprouting up. I knew we had to take pictures in this orchard while the flowers were in full bloom.  Spring has to be my favorite season by far. Even though I love wearing the layers that fall brings, there’s something so special about the softer palette of spring. And there was an almost ethereal feeling while I walked through these blossoms.

I’m notoriously hopeless at wearing jewelry. I have a few favorites that I wear over and over again so I never incorporate the rest of my jewelry into my daily outfits. I love shiny things and I used to buy jewelry – a lot. I literally have a stockpile of jewelry and not enough space to keep it. I’ve kept my ‘shiny things obsession’ at bay until I saw this soft pink blouse with rhinestone cuffs. They’re so cute and I don’t have to worry if my jewelry matches my clothes.

I paired a set of rhinestone silver necklace and earrings with this top. I initially wore them as part of my maid of honor’s outfit to my cousins wedding a year ago and I feel like they’re more of a fancier pair of jewelry. This top is dressy causal, but I dressed it down with a pair of denim jeggings and nude strappy wedges. I also love how this outfit was literally so easy to put together.

New Age Braids

It was so sunny the day we took these pictures. California is going through this weird funk of rain, sunshine and chilly days. I don’t really know what’s going on with the weather and I really hope it’s going to go back to normal spring weather. This outfit is a perfect reflection of how I feel about the weather. I wore this to school one day and got so many compliments!

This is my go to hairstyle when I have dirty hair. I have pretty long hair so I tend to wash it every other day. The actual name for this style is boxer braids, but I tend to call them Khloe Kardashian braids. It seems that she’s always wearing them.

I’m a fan of white lace tops. It always pairs nicely against my skin tone and gives me a soft glow. Also, I’ve been waiting for it to be spring so I can incorporate the summer clothes into my daily style. There’s a small pattern on the top along the neckline which I adore. It’s not too busy and not that similar to the white lace top I wore in Eyelet Lace.

I’ve had the boots forever! They’re so well made and I practically live in them. Hands down – these shoes are my most loved pair. My sisters tend to borrow them too. I like pairing them with either skinny jeans or leggings. There’s something effortless about these boots and I feel like its easy to dress down any outfit with these boots.

Target Beauty Box: February 2017

Discover, Subscription Box, Target Beauty Box

The Target Beauty Box is a monthly subscription beauty box. It is currently available only online at Target. The box retails for $10 when it is initially released (usually on the last day of the previous month – i.e. January 31th), but goes down to $7 after the first week or so. This beauty box is set apart from the others (Sephora Play, Ipsy, Birchbox) because there is no subscription contract. You buy one when you want to and there is no obligation to worry about automatic payments or the like.

Each Target Beauty Box comes with a unique theme. This months theme was HYDRATION. Also, each box comes with a descriptive list of the items included along with a $3 coupon valid at Target online/in stores for any beauty, skin, or hair care purchase above $15.

This box contains:

  • Masque Bar Hydrating Peel Off Mask
  • Raw Sugar Raw Coconut and Mango Body Wash
  • Soap and Glory Face Soap and Clarity Face Wash
  • Gliss Ultimate Repair Shampoo
  • Gliss Ultimate Repair Conditioner
  • Sun Bum Sunless Self-Tanning Towelette
  • W3LL PEOPLE Expressionist Pro Mascara
  • L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Mask

Masque Bar Hydrating Peel Off Mask – Value – $3.49

” Long- lasting formula made with aloe, collagen and vitamin E hydrates skin for a youthful glow.”

This was not a sheet mask like I initially assumed. There was enough in this packet to do a single face mask though I was hoping to stretch it out to at least two times. My skin didn’t feel extra hydrated, but it did feel clean.

Raw Sugar Raw Coconut and Mango Body Wash – Value – $0.60

“Natural, cold-pressed coconut and mango offer nutrition-rich vitamins and enzymes to brighten and soothe skin.”

I’m not the biggest fan for any thing coconut scented so I will probably give this to my little sister. She’s a huge fan of tropical scents. Something that I do love about this body wash -no sulfates, no phthalates, no dyes, no parabens. And it’s not tested on animals!

Soap and Glory Face Soap and Clarity Face Wash – Value – $1.00

Anything by Soap and Glory I love! This face wash is also the perfect size for me to take as a travel face wash. It is very minty and super refreshing. There are exfoliating beads so I would probably use this a few times a week, but not daily. I could definitely see myself buying the full sized version of this when I run out of the tiny one.

Gliss Ultimate Repair ShampooGliss Ultimate Repair Conditioner – Value – $1.50

“Cleans and conditions while replacing lost keratin protein to restore strength and prevent future damage.”

I have horrible hair. It’s frizzy and untamable – sort of like Hagrid’s. I’m always on the hunt for that magic shampoo and conditioner that will make my hair into more Rapunzel-esque naturally. I didn’t try these out yet because they’re the perfect travel size. They have very positive reviews on the site so I’m not that nervous about trying something new while away from my battle station of hair products.

Sun Bum Sunless Self-Tanning Towelette – Value – $3.20

“Exfoliates and moisturizes to help skin’s proteins and amino acids produce a natural, sunless tan.”

I’ve never used a tanning towelette or any tanning products in my life. And I don’t think that’s going to change – ever. I’m pretty brown – stylishmochas. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this company and I’m planning on giving this to my best friend.

W3LL PEOPLE Expressionist Pro Mascara – Value – maybe $10 (the full size one is $21.99 and this is definitely a deluxe sample that is about half the size of the full size)

“Nourishes with a synergistic botanical blend for bold, fluffy lashes. 100% cruelty, coal tar and aluminum free.”

Truth be told, I’ve never heard of this makeup brand. It is a nice sized mascara which I could see taking in my gym back or storing in my car as part of an emergency makeup kit. I think it is a natural mascara (?) and I’ve never tried one before. It applies very nicely, but there is a very strong smell to it.

L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Mask – Value – $7.50

“Trio of clay masks, including purifying eucalyptus, detoxifying charcoal & exfoliating red algae.”

I bought this box because of this mask trio. I’ve seen the ads for them everywhere and I liked that I would get to try on all three of them rather than just one. The value of this one sample alone paid for my box. I love face masks in general. It makes me feel so pampered. These masks tighten as they dry which I liked. However, I have dry skin and I felt like they dried my skin even further. There was no visible difference of the effects between the three even though they each claim to do something different.

THE VERDICT: I paid $7.00 and the value of the box is around $27.00. Would I buy this box again? Definitely! I feel like this Target Beauty Box (my very first one) has sold me on them. I don’t know if I would pay the full price though. I’d much rather wait till they go on sale.

You can buy the next Target Beauty Box here.
